Taking Care of Our Eyes

We often take the gift of eyesight for granted. We don't give the kind of care and attention our eyes deserve. We forget that abusing it could result in its loss. We tend to forget that there are various consequences of our actions that could result in impaired vision. It is only if we were to lose it that we would truly understand how important our eyesight is.

But with adequate care, we can preserve our eyesight and maintain clear vision even if we reach old age. Here are some tips on how to take good care of your eyes.

Avoid stressing the eyes. When watching TV, perhaps you could distance yourself from the monitor. When reading or using the computer, it would be best to give your eyes a break once in a while. Eat foods rich in vitamins A, C and E, such as carrots, squash, almonds, spinach and green leafy veggies. Also, try placing cucumber slices on your eyes for a couple of minutes before sleeping. And always get a good night's rest by allowing at least seven hours for sleep.
